Sheet metal workers fabricate, assemble and install products and components from sheet steel, stainless steel, aluminium and other metals. The work spans a wide range of applications. HVAC ductwork and ventilation systems, food processing equipment, architectural metalwork, custom enclosures and panels, light structural components and general fabrication for manufacturing clients.
The trade requires a strong foundation in pattern development, marking out, cutting and forming. A competent sheet metal worker can read a drawing, develop a blank, set up a folder or press brake and produce a finished component that fits first time. Welding, typically MIG or TIG, is expected by most Brisbane employers, particularly those working in stainless steel or food-grade applications.
