Hire Boilermakers in Brisbane

Steel doesn't become structure by accident. Boilermakers are the tradespeople who cut, form, fit and weld metal into the fabricated components, vessels and structures that manufacturing and industrial operations depend on.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Boilermakers fabricate, assemble and repair metal structures, vessels, tanks and components using a combination of welding, cutting, forming and fitting techniques. The trade spans structural fabrication of beams, frames and platforms through to platework, pressure vessels, pipework and custom engineered components. In a workshop environment the work is typically drawing-driven and production-oriented. On site, it involves maintenance, repair and installation work on existing plant and infrastructure.

In Brisbane’s manufacturing sector, boilermakers are employed across structural steel fabricators, custom engineering workshops, food and beverage processing equipment manufacturers, trailer and vehicle body builders, and industrial maintenance contractors. The breadth of the trade means no two workshops are identical. An employer fitting out a food processing facility has different priorities to one fabricating mining equipment or building semi-trailers. Candidates who have worked across more than one application are genuinely more versatile.

Most Brisbane boilermaker roles require MIG and TIG welding competency as a baseline. Employers working with stainless steel, aluminium or pressure-rated components will screen more selectively for weld quality, procedure compliance and material handling experience.

Our trades and engineering recruitment guide covers why qualified boilermakers with strong welding and fabrication credentials remain one of the harder trades to source consistently across Brisbane’s manufacturing sector.

What We Screen For

Trade Qualification and ExperienceTrade Qualification and Experience

Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Boilermaker / Metal Fabricator or equivalent) is the baseline requirement for all placements. We look for demonstrated post-trade experience in a fabrication workshop or industrial maintenance environment.

Welding Capability

MIG welding competency is the minimum for most roles. TIG welding capability is required for stainless steel, food-grade and precision fabrication applications and is screened specifically where the employer’s work demands it.

Drawing Interpretation

Candidates need to read and work confidently from fabrication drawings including weld symbols, material callouts and dimensional tolerances. This is not optional, it is how workshop instructions are communicated and errors here are costly.

Fitting and Tacking

We screen specifically for the ability to assemble and tack components accurately before welding. A boilermaker who can only weld what someone else has set up is a limited asset in most Brisbane workshops.

Materials Experience

Experience across mild steel, stainless, aluminium or pressure-rated material is matched to the employer’s primary work during screening. Not every candidate needs experience across all materials but the match needs to be right for the role.

Safety Awareness

Candidates are screened for familiarity with hot work procedures, PPE compliance and awareness of confined space and working at heights requirements where the role involves those environments.

Pay Rates for Boilermakers in Brisbane

Boilermaker salaries in Brisbane’s manufacturing and fabrication sector reflect trade qualification, welding process capability and the complexity of the work involved.

Newly qualified tradespeople coming out of an apprenticeship in a general fabrication environment typically start between $68,000 and $78,000. Those with post-trade experience in structural work, pressure vessels or stainless fabrication, and a demonstrated ability to work from drawings independently, move toward $78,000 to $92,000. Experienced boilermakers with strong weld quality records, procedure compliance experience or leading hand capability can reach $92,000 to $105,000 in Brisbane workshop-based roles.

Salaries in shutdown, site-based and mining-adjacent roles sit materially higher and are not reflected here. This page focuses on Brisbane manufacturing and fabrication workshops operating standard day and afternoon shifts.

Contract and labour hire engagements are common for project surges, production ramp-ups and gap coverage between permanent hires. These are quoted on an equivalent hourly rate.
