Hire Diesel Fitters and Mechanics in Brisbane
Trucks, plant and heavy equipment don't stop earning money when they're in the workshop. They stop earning money when they're broken down somewhere else. Diesel fitters and mechanics are the tradespeople who keep fleets moving and plant operational, and who diagnose problems before they become expensive ones.

Trades Role

If you hold a diesel trade qualification and have post-trade experience on heavy vehicles or plant equipment, send us your CV and we will match you with Brisbane operations that suit your background.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
Diesel fitters and mechanics service, maintain, diagnose and repair diesel-powered vehicles, plant and equipment. The trade covers a broad range of equipment — heavy trucks and prime movers, light commercial vehicles, earthmoving plant, forklifts, generators and industrial machinery with diesel power units.
The terms are used interchangeably in Brisbane’s market but the distinction generally comes down to equipment. Fitters work on plant and machinery. Mechanics work on wheeled vehicles. Most Brisbane employers want someone who can cover both with the right induction to their specific fleet.
The role can be workshop based, field service based or a combination of both. Brisbane employers include transport and logistics companies, civil contractors, equipment dealers and service centres, local government fleet operations and manufacturing businesses with diesel plant on site.
Our trades and engineering recruitment guide covers how demand for trade-qualified diesel fitters across Brisbane’s transport and industrial sector has remained strong, particularly for those with OEM diagnostic tool experience and a background on late-model equipment.
What We Screen For
Trade Qualification and Experience
Certificate III in Engineering – Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Mobile Plant Technology or equivalent. We look for demonstrated post-trade experience on equipment directly relevant to the employer’s fleet.
Diagnostic Capability
Candidates need to demonstrate they can diagnose faults systematically and work from service documentation without constant supervision. Experience with OEM diagnostic platforms is expected for most roles.
Documentation Discipline
Accurate job card and maintenance record completion is screened for every placement. Traceability matters in fleet and plant environments.
Field Service Readiness
For field service roles we screen for self-sufficient fault-finding capability — the ability to triage a breakdown on site, determine what is needed and communicate clearly back to the workshop.
Licences
A current driver’s licence appropriate to the vehicles being maintained is required for most roles. HR or HC is expected for heavy truck and fleet positions.

Licenses and Tickets
- Certificate III – Heavy Vehicle or Mobile Plant
- HR or HC Driver's Licence
- Forklift Licence (site dependent)
- Working at Heights
- EWP (field service roles)
How We Place Diesel Fitters and Mechanics
Trade-qualified diesel fitters with OEM diagnostic experience and a track record on relevant equipment don't stay available for long. We place both active candidates and tradespeople we have existing relationships with, which matters when a workshop needs someone productive from the first week.
Permanent Recruitment
The most common engagement for this role. We source and place permanent diesel fitters and mechanics with the equipment knowledge, diagnostic capability and documentation discipline your operation requires.
Contract and Fixed-Term
Relevant for businesses managing fleet expansions, equipment projects or seasonal maintenance peaks. We place experienced contract diesel tradespeople who can step into a live workshop or field service function from day one.
Labour Hire
Well suited to transport and plant operations needing flexible trade capacity during growth periods or while a permanent hire is being finalised.
